clocks are the most popular type of antique clocks and are among the first watches designed specifically for the home. The development that made the clock reliable and feasible first mechanic was something called the verge escapement, which was invented about 1275 , which controls the transfer of power from one part of the mechanism to another. There are wheels of different sizes or patterns of gears with the gear train to the clock hands spinning at different speeds.

In 1291 he moved to Vienna glassmakers to the island of Murano, where he began making clocks with beautiful round faces inspired by the sun in a variety of vibrant colors. The first clock on the wall for the house began to make way in England, about the early 1600. These were called lantern clocks probably because they looked very much like the lanterns in use at that time. They hung on a wall hook and they had weights hanging below them ropes or chains.

These early clocks had only time you had your hands on your speed dial for the quarter hours. They are usually run only 12 hours before needing to be reset, but later some were made that could work for a day or up to thirty hours. About 1660, the minute hand was added to the clocks. The pendulum was not invented until 1658.

The wall clock rococo style, which was made in France in early 1730, was characterized by graceful curves and elements of nature such as leaves and flowers. Often, these clocks were decorated with gold leaf. In 1891, the company made Waterbury clocks beautiful, some as high eight inches.

These watches were often carved in geometric designs on the top, bottom and sides with curved designs was above the clock face itself. Watches with spring-driven mechanisms were called clock support, and while many were actually hung on wall brackets, many were set on tables or fireplaces.
